About Me.

Hi! I’m Kris, a Charlotte, NC based wedding, elopement, and couple portrait photographer. My approach to shooting photography is very intentional. I always look for what makes every couple or individual special and try to navigate my photos to bring out those convictions of love. My work lives in a natural light and documentary style that fails to meet the “cookie cutter” expectations of your everyday photographer - because let’s face it, your love doesn’t look like everyone else’s, so why should your precious memories of them be as well?

I started this journey of “Documenting the stories of human connection” with a fire to use my talents to turn love into art. I see love as a human need that some spend a lifetime searching for, and once found should be documented in wonderful ways. I’m not here for likes, followers, or praise. I’m here to provide the nostalgia, memories, and happy tears that come from looking back at these small moments in time, which we call photographs.

The name Unorthodox Wave is the mentality that life shouldn’t follow this cookie cutter template. We're not here to color inside the lines or follow trends. To me, being unorthodox means questioning the script, bending the rules, and creating space for stories that don’t fit into a neat, curated box.

It’s about embracing the raw, the real, the beautifully flawed and turning it into something amazing. It’s about capturing love in its truest form—Raw, a little messy, often unscripted — and that’s what makes it breathtaking. I don’t shoot for symmetry or trends, and I don’t shoot to “check the box”. I’m very intentional with my approach: from shooting in the field, to post processing, I have a vision tailored to every couple to tell their story in the best way possible.

Unorthodox Wave is a reminder that love doesn’t follow a script. It swells, crashes, calms — unpredictable, raw, and beautiful in its imperfection.
